How to choose a luxury beach resort that suits your holiday
A beautiful coastline is the beginning. The right beach resort also needs to fit the way you want to spend your days.
A beautiful coastline is the beginning. The right beach resort also needs to fit the way you want to spend your days.

Before comparing luxury beach resorts, decide what your ideal day looks like. Is it swimming before breakfast, reading beside a quiet pool, a long lunch or exploring beyond the hotel? List three essentials and three nice-to-haves. This gives your hotel search a useful brief and makes it easier to decide between properties with equally attractive photographs.
Check whether the beach is directly accessible from the hotel and whether the photographs show the stretch beside your intended room. If swimming matters, ask about the conditions expected during your travel dates, lifeguard provision and any local restrictions. A sea view does not answer those questions. Families should also ask about the route to the water and the facilities beside it.
A beachfront room, a sea-view suite and a garden villa offer different experiences. Request the location and layout of the category being quoted, rather than relying on photographs of the resort’s most expensive accommodation. Think about steps, walking distances, privacy and proximity to restaurants. For a private pool, ask about its dimensions and whether the terrace is overlooked.
Tell the hotel whether you want a quiet couples’ break, a family holiday or a sociable resort. Ask about evening entertainment and the position of any event spaces. For children, confirm club age limits, opening times, booking requirements and charges. For a quieter stay, request information about adults-only areas rather than assuming the whole property has the same atmosphere.
Ask how you reach the resort from your arrival airport and what the quoted transfer covers. Confirm operating times, luggage arrangements and any extra journey stages. Share flight details before agreeing the hotel dates if your arrival is late or departure is early. The transfer should fit your plans as comfortably as the room does.
Ask for guidance specific to the destination and time of year you are considering. Check current official travel advice before booking, and avoid treating photographs as a prediction of weather or sea conditions. If your dates are fixed, say so early. If they are flexible, explain whether calm beach days, sightseeing or a particular activity is the priority.
Request the room, meal plan, transfers, taxes and cancellation terms together. A lower nightly rate is not enough to compare two resorts fairly.
